ILL K Entry 53 "KAT STACKS IS HIPHOP"

Hiphop's favorite bad ass chick, Kat Stacks.

KAT STACKS IS HIPHOP. Yes, I said it. B-Roc said it -- we are all plagued by notions of what a woman in hiphop is. Your confidant, your bitch, your booty call, your PR agent, your wifey, your DJ -- I mean, you name it. Hiphop has evolved. And what finer way to tell you what kind of hiphop has evolved in the west but from this article by Rocky Rivera. It's short enough to blow me away. Some things we see and accept without saying so is now written and is now part of history.

From Rocky Rivera's TUMBLR:

"I was introduced to Kat Stacks not too long before the “slap heard ‘round the World” and was immediately intrigued. She was described as the 2010 SuperHead, and while people who know me might immediately assume I would detest someone like her, I’ve long since moved past blaming women for reacting to an industry that continues to put them at the bottom rung of the economic ladder.

In short, she is Hip Hop’s creation. She was made in Hip Hop’s name. Once you get past the vulgarity, she is what Hip Hop values most: an attractive, bodacious woman who is promiscuous and isn’t afraid to admit it. Did you think T-Pain’s “I’m In Love With A Stripper” wouldn’t have any social implications?

Rappers have one vice and that’s women. Boasting about being “into having sex and not making love”, they’re letting these complete strangers into their intimate space and throwing them out like a used condom. And while rappers are used to treating women like single-serving entrees, there is an interesting caveat that occurs: these women deep down, don’t like it. Sure they smile and let you have your way with their body - an illusion that the rapper is in complete control - but these women become resentful and hellbent on revenge."

Beyond Beyond PART 2 Entry 2 "RISE AND SHINE by QUEST"

Q1

Quest - Rise and Shine (Produced by Bojam, Jim Pob & Yujin of Flip Music)

WE WERE BUILT TO INSPIRE. You can talk all you want about what you are in this hiphop shit, but my team, we were built to inspire. One day you will surpass what we've done and when that day comes -- we've done our job. I, personally, am not fazed about all this hate thrown our way, my team and the people we're with. People like me understand what it takes to inspire the future and that includes taking unfortunate situations and using it as building blocks to reach further. Some people will make hiphop music and make it for the fuck of it. But we've been aligned with people to make music, period.

ONE STEP AT A TIME, REPETITION IS THE KEY.

My dudes, we've been at it for years now and the music we put out never gets tiring. We always top our last release, let it be known. You can say all you want of the things we didn't reach -- maybe cause our eyes were not looking that way. The aim hasn't changed we just shifting the targets. The inspiration we serve will not be delayed by any deal we get or not get, and that's a fact I've lived by since I started Turbulence. And I tell you, we have classics under our belts - I will match your catalog hit per hit. Real heads know.

Good morning, wake up to believing you will find a purpose in your day. I wish you luck, health and insight - so you could see for yourself. Flip Music and Quest team up once again, giving you Rise and Shine.

BEYOND BEYOND.

ONE LIFE FOR US TO LIVE, LIVE IT WITH CONSISTENCY.

WE CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE WITH LESS DOUBT MORE FAITH.

2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #17

JONAN A

NUMBER 17: JONAN AGUILAR - one of the most talented MC's, whose roots are of music royalty in the Philippines. Amongst all his siblings, I think Jonan delving into hiphop is a success outside the shadows of his dad's achievements. JA - real name no gimmicks, has been marinating in the scene for the longest of time now. You would see him mingling in clubs, rock shows, cyphering outside and just being one with the movement. Nothing had slowed him down, when you see less of him -- he's in the studio. Jonan Aguilar is probably one of few persons in hiphop who gets to tour the US, performing with his family. News is he is leaving on the 23rd to go somewhere in Europe which I bet dude will take a quick stop at Amsterdam!

Jonan as been rocking mics for a minute now, is a member of the hiphop super group Los Indios Bravoz -- who have released Kalye Musika to critical acclaim. Over the recent year that has passed, he has slowly been preparing his debut album. Throughout his performances around the metro -- we have been given glimpses of what the album is shaping up to be. I remember the first time I caught him perform a new piece from his album was in Saguijo and by god, I was blown away -- him and the Anak Band has a synergy that cannot be rivaled because of family ties. Songs like Pilipino Ka, Biktima performed with the band is just crazy. He even brought out a soprano like singing woman who gave the show added texture and showed how sure Jonan is of how he wants his music presented.

Nyco Maca + Playground feat. Jonan Aguilar - Anak

Jonan kills this No Album Got Skillz Episode

Nyco Maca feat. Jonan - That Noise (LIVE)

Jonan is an ILLEGITIMATE KING in his own right, conquering kingdoms outside his fathers reach but still keeping it family business. No one looks the part more than Jonan, the demeanor he carries around shows he knows the gifts he's been bestowed and aren't afraid to use it. His reach this year invokes the spirit of community as his weekly spot MIXTAPE at Ka Freddies, is a place hiphop calls home - to drink, network, and all that good stuff. This placed has nurtured hiphops growth over the past year and has been integral in keeping everyone within arms reach. Jonan also plays mean basketball and is part of Team Sunday, hahaha.

Cop his Volume 1 Mixtape, a collection of songs he has done over the years with different artists, producers and bands. This will be available at Target & Ka Freddies Bar in Malate at only 200 PHP. Word is bond, with what 2010 is pumping out as far as hiphop music, this might be the best year we've had for a minute now!

LOONIE "THE ONES WHO NEVER MADE IT"

Loonie feat. Gloc 9, Rhyxodus, Mikkeraphone & Konflick - Quinta (Produced by The Beatmonx)

2010, MOMENTUM SHIFT. Here's an album that's been highly anticipated for the past 5 years. I don't care which part of the world you're from but if you say you a Pinoy hiphop fan - Loonie is that dude. I have locked this album on my player for the past few days and sitting on this news has made me almost go crazy here in Singapore. So today, me and my good friend is letting this one go. Eventhough I was never part of the makings of this album, I dedicate this entry to all my new school colleagues Los Indios Bravoz, Stick Figgas, Mike Swift, Turbulence, Audible, AMPON, Miscellaneous, Same Team, Datu and Team Firm. We've come along way and we've relied on each others energy to push our brand of hiphop into the scene. Congratulations to us! Know our legacy is of different relevance and will shine through no matter what, deal or no deal.

Loonie's album is packed with thought, momentum, story, depth and relevance all punctuated with rhymes and delivery you have never heard before in ANY OPM HIPHOP ACT. The INTRO alone sets up the two sided thought process behind the album title. Songs like The Bobo Song, Quinta, Walang Babala are easy favorites. The guests artists and MC's in this album where well picked. Hi C, Dice, Konflick, Tuff, Gloc 9, Rhyxodus, God's Will, Mike Kosa, JSkeelz, Toney Chrome, Nimbusnine, Mikkeraphone, Ron Henley and Klumcee trade bars with Loonie throughout the album in a careful balance of brilliance and integrity. Soundscapes provided by monster producers The Beatmonx - doing most of the beats; CH and Jaytek. It won't be a Loonie album if it didn't stir up jokes and controversy. From calling out other local MC's on songs to an MC Battle skit to that recorded phone call from an irate woman.

This album is the closest I've heard to a true depiction to our strength, struggles and reflection as new age hiphop artists in Pinas. There are alot of gems in this album, I dare you not to like it, really I dare you. This album is brought to you by 6000 Goonz, Clay Shop, 10th St. Manila, WeLegendary x SPECKS and WIPCAPS.

We are giving this album for free download, we also included the lyrics to some of the songs, a bonus track that features Francis Magalona produced by Chrizo and a letter to the fans. But don't think for one second I'm letting you guys off easy, here are 12 links -- click away. Some of these links will lead you to the album, some well -- we're trying to get paid too, so click away. Time to bomb the world.

To the ones who think they will make it, this ones for you,
To the ones who already gave up, this ones for you,
To those never given a chance, this is a step forward;
To the ones who embarrassed MY hiphop, this ones a reminder.

2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #18

POWER 18

SINAG - Saan Ang Langit

NUMBER 18: Sinag/Stick Figgas/Barangay Tibay - RESPETONG PINAGHIRAPAN. Over the years, I've seen hiphop albums made in Pinas have token rock collaboration tracks. From Dcoy's Plastic Age, Chill's Egomanical to Legit Misfitz's 100 Porsyento -- rock band collaborations have been in them all, I don't really know. One thing I know growing up in Pinas, you can never deny your pinoy rock roots. And for independent artists of my generation who will not never get signed and won't be able to make token hip-rock songs we have more than embraced the challenge of earning our stripes. From what I know about the rock scene, they respect you for being true to what you do, and well in their world its just a matter of "Sunugan" -- unahan lang yan, shock them before they shock you, so when you're blessing they stage sunugin mo, none of that YO shit. After all Francis Magalona was already paving ways - it was only a matter of time.

SINAG - MGA PINOY, released last June 12, go figure.

Enter Sinag and Stick Figgas -- the transition was never overnight. The independent hiphop scene garnered its entry thru Sun Valley Crew's band, then Nimbus' work with Cosmic Love and Psylent blowing away the scene as well. It all boils down to showing up to perform and embracing the energy. Reg Rubio co-signing it all also holds the most weight. The Greyhoundz front man started Barangay Tibay and has been letting hiphop gain its own rock scene following through Sinag, Nimbusnine, Mike Swift and Jonan Aguilar and Anak. Sinag - comprised of Tuts Calinawan and Biboy from Quezo, God's Will, Chaneezy and JC. RESPECT IT. Sinag has been recording songs and its crazy how the songs have been sounding so far, lead by God's Will's Batangueno moobs on the mic.

The common denominator of Sinag and Stick Figgas is the drummer named Chano. It was his brainchild to form Sinag and has been a very integral worker in both the hiphop and rock scene. He is currently spearheading a tour with Red Horse, taking care of Ricky Sta. Ana's Skinworks TV, has put in work shooting THE HISTORY movie with the All-Stars on top of it producing beats for various acts in the metro. He has produced a song in the highly anticipated Quest album entitled "PARTY LIFE", Three Kings album and has worked with the likes of Abby Asistio, AXL Prose, Aero, 6000 Goonz and more!

STICK FIGGAS FREESTYLE

News is, Loonie is about to drop his debut album maybe this week -- hmmmm? Ron Henley is working on his debut as well and that the full band Stick Figgas 2nd album is up next. Check out Ron Henley's solo track "BIGLANG LIKO" produced by monster beat makers, Flip Music. Loonie has been Kinging the Pinas battle circuit, and if I'm not mistaken he is shaping up his last bout pretty soon -- hmmm? Who would you want to see him battle, I'll past it to him. Hehehe.

LOONIE X

I see Loonie wearing Soulfiesta green here, hmmmm?

You can catch Barangay Tibay shows every first wednesday of the month at Saguijo. Barangay Tibay has been one of the most sought out shows in the metro. The energy Barangay Tibay has for hiphop is in such a show and prove atmosphere and I've seen hiphop acts from my generation embrace the scene all together. Giving these artist a certain kid of swag participating in the education and evolution of our Pinoy Rock scene. Gathering acts like Quezo, Sultans of Snap, Cosmic Love, Greyhoundz, Head, Kastigo and has spawned a very profitable shirt line called Medisina, designed by Joshua Designer. Also, Sinag & Stick Figgas has recently claimed a billboard in EDSA for a party list endorsement during the election season.

2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #19

POWER 19

Marcus Davis Jr. - Filipina Girl (Produced by Marcus Davis Jr.)

NUMBER 19: Marcus Davis Jr. - Marcus Davis is already a veteran in the scene. As much as you think you don't know of him, he's been making moves for a minute now. Tons of things have developed for this dude since releasing his first album in Pinas, cmon now do your research. I saw the poster at a studio in Katipunan before even meeting this guy. It might have been an album that didn't get enough shine but this dude came to Pinas with a plan and have been grinding hard ever since. As the president of ATM Entertainment he then was responsible for blowing up Amber Davis' career. With songs such as Manila, Radio, Back Into You, Taas Noo -- under his belt, he has been integral in mapping out Amber's catalog. These songs also alongside great videos -- showed mainstream Pinas a taste of how R&B is done under supreme supervision and showcased how competitive Pinas was. Amber Davis is responsible for pushing that R&B back into the radio, charts and video channels! He has also written hits for Billy Crawford, Jay-R, Kris Lawrence, Young JV and more. A well traveled performer song writer, he has been working and expanding his clientele around the globe. With his work ethic alone, he has developed relationships with major record labels in Pinas -- making him the go to guy for R&B and hiphop in Pinas. He has served hits for artists under Viva Records and Universal Records; has worked with PLDT, his voice and his music can be heard on the best station IDs for radio at WAVE, and also bagged the ABS CBN station ID with the theme "One Team One Summer". He also has done work with Universal Studios Japan, TV5, Magic 89.9, Sony BMG, Star Records and more.

ABS CBN ONE TEAM ONE SUMMER

Amber Davis - Back Into You

Amber Davis feat. Gloc 9 - Taas Noo

Word is, he recently got a job to run a sub label from one of the majors named Pinoy Records. He is the CEO of that outfit and will be pushing some acts in the near future (I am in no liberty to share what I know at this point). He also still pens songs for himself and his most recent hit was "FILIPINA GIRL" and held the number 1 spot on WAVE's SOULREVIEW for numerous weeks! This same song made a lot of noise online being the number 1 bought OPM song in various sites! Also, there is a project he has been spearheading, working on to match up local superstar R&B celebrities with your favorite underground hiphop heads -- I know for a fact that there is a Nimbusnine x Jay-R song in the works and it's being made to bridge the gap between the two music monster sectors and break bread!

AMBER DAVIS's new album entitled "FILAM" will be launched this friday June 11 8PM at Circa in Eastwood,Libis. Keep pushing that OPM HIPHOP SOUL music!

That legendary Kenneth Duremdes number homie, Marcus Davis Jr.

Did You Know: My team made it to that Taas Noo video and when we got there they were all wrapping up. I remember this was around the same time we released Back To The New School in the radio and we had just came from promoting on RX 93.1; then we went to pay our congratulations to the All Stars anniversary in Circa before hitting up the video shoot. Its a coming to full circle of sorts knowing Amber is releasing another album this friday at the same venue we were in over a year ago and this lovely Power Ranking feature. Word to your momma, my timing is just sick.

2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #20

POWER RANKING 20

Specks/We Legendary comes into the list at Number 20.

NUMBER 20: SPECKS/WE LEGENDARY - Mark Bandigan has been one of the biggest persons behind the entire skate scene in the Philippines. I bumped into his product during my early days as a member of AMPON, I saw Caliph8 rocking a shirt and it caught my eye. Years later, as my team was doing cross promotions with FUBU -- I came to know the person behind the shirts. Mark Bandigan, a graphic designer and was the marketing head of FUBU at the time, had another passion which was his own clothing line called SPECKS. His passion for the in line skating and skateboard community is unparalleled. Pushing shirts off his own house, sponsoring acts like Pamilia Dimagiba, TEAM GRAE to Raimund Marasigan of Sandwich and basically putting his money where his mouth is. Throughout the years he has blossomed into a better businessman and it shows -- he has opened his first store We Legendary and has also opened his second store within 2 years in his birth place in Davao. Constantly pushing the skate scene to achieve more recognition, he has a team of skaters under his guidance who have been dominating and has become legends in the circuit both in the metro and in Davao.

WE LEGENDARY NIKE SB LAUNCH

Recently, he bagged his NIKE SB account and has been selling em like crazy. I have to credit his deals with Nike cause from my last visit there and to my visit to sneaker shops in SG, We Legendary actually has better stocks and their releases are quite on time -- than Singapore. I've seen urban shops come up and go throughout the years, whether it be hiphop or skate inclined but none has outlasted the shifting scene more than SPECKS/WE LEGENDARY.

SPECKS1

WONG of Team Specks was recently invited to the X Games in Shanghai.

Also if you don't already assess how much of a hustler Mark Bandigan is, let me break it down for you. Even in the skate community -- there are on going pirating of one crew member to the other by different crews trying to get they name up. Whether it be money, sponsorships, fame, shoes -- the offers are going crazy by the day. TEAM SPECKS was just recently invited to the X GAMES in Shanghai,China -- as recent as late last month. And although Wong didn't qualify due to some issues on the changing the rules last minute but this also marks the first time a Filipino Skater from Pinas made it to the X Games! Specks as a brand has taken a back seat for now, but they have released collaboration shirts with AMPON, DJ Red I and the sold out "Loyalty Feeds The Movement" shirt by Turbulence.

ILL K Entry 47 "FINDING THE WAY BACK"

Nathan J feat. Jocelyn Oxlade - Finding The Way Back (Produced by Nathan J)

Nathan J and Jocelyn Oxlade shows you how it's done. Lately, there's been beef being grilled and well everyone has they own opinions on how to move forward. I've yet to release a formal statement about it, word to H-Town! Hehehehe. But freal, it'll all pan out -- picked up this video filled with pics of my The Community days. I know y'all miss it, I know y'all been yearning for it -- so here's a glimpse of our younger days. I see stills from the parking lot cyphers, Boom Dayupay interviewing people, Nathan J and Chrizo rocking those The Community shirts, Los Indios Bravoz, Mike Swift and Sunny Bandila, London Baby, Tempes, Traumatik -- Datu with long hair, I see Deleet, Johnny Krush, 7 Shots and more.

I mean, we all are grown now -- but not everyone grows up, word to Protege. Jocelyn laces this one up nicely! I wish everyone luck in what they're up to. I know me and my team have been playing things consistent over the years and we're currently on a whole different page now. Since June 1 -- we've pushing this thing in full effect again. There are a couple of announcements I would like to make for this week though. Quest's video Back To Love will be launched later this week, June 12 directed by Dominic Nuesa and The Community CD 2006 will be released next month.

2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #21

POWER 21

<a href="http://pikaso.bandcamp.com/track/tunog-kalye-ft-jazze">Tunog Kalye ft. Jazze by PIKASO</a>

Mike Kosa feat. Jazze Manuel - Tunog Kalye (Produced by PIKASO)

NUMBER 21: 187 MOBSTAZ ENTERTAINMENT - Self made hiphop micro-entrepreneurs, hustlers, artists and movers. They are often overlooked by bigger players -- radio, TV, record labels, awards shows but they have been pushing the boundaries of independent music for a minute now. From the heart of Tondo, where separation exists and life long family ties and gangs decide which streets to walk on or not to walk on, 187 Mobstaz sprouted with both history and future in hand. There are several crews holding down Tondo but none has repped it harder that this. Amongst shanties and the poor living conditions, these artists are able to build studios, mix and master they tracks and put it out. Hell, they even have better equipment than I do. They have bred leaders in the presence of Gab, Mike Kosa, Chub-b -- all holding respectable roles in pushing they're brand.

Mike Kosa performing MY GAME

187 Mobstaz freestyle session with Mista Blaze

Mike Kosa is currently the flag bearer -- an amazing freestyler, but a much more greater lyricist, who just recently graduated with a degree in Criminology looking to be a cop soon, ironically. He has been the face of 187, has his songs pirated throughout the country. Kids everywhere know of him, knows his lyrics and has been flown out to do shows outside the metro. He has done shows from rap contest's to APL DE AP's Ondoy Benefit Show and more. He recently bagged a spot on PIKASO's TURF CD Compilation -- which for me, is the best song in that release. Pikaso gives him a beat to rip, and Jazze blesses it with style and soul. Rumor is Mike Kosa even penned the hook for this one. Shoutouts to Ron Thug for letting me hear that song! He also was the cover and feature story on Konektado DVD's first issue! Gab, the unsung hero behind this movement is the glue that keeps them all together. He makes the decision and leads the team to further business ventures and produces shows for the movement. The strength of this Mobstaz movement is showcased through their expansion out of Tondo - there are heads in Baguio who are part of this and as well in Makati, Malate, Marikina, Malabon and more cities. Chub-b, the ultimate local hiphop hustler has been marinating in the scene for a minute now -- he started as an employee of FUBU then to now earns a living through his venture as a urban apparel business man and promotes his I LOVE HUSTLIN' store which also houses the BOSS BALITA shirts! And I even see people in Singapore rocking those shirts! They also house underground veterans Lyrical Assault, pinoy R&B acts J-Russ and Just Hush -- which by any means are great acts yo, trust me check out Third Floor Man's CD. 2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #22

ARBI

A.N.E. - Who Knows (Produced by DJ Arbi Won)

NUMBER 22: DJ ARBI WON is The Beat Traveller - arguably the most decorated general in the game as we speak. Still bridging the old with the new and never lost touch with his relevance and dedication to his work. DJ Arbie has been blessing us with history since his Urban Flow days crafting hits to his peers -- an AWIT AWARD recipient for his work on Miss Pakipot (correct me if I'm wrong). Dont ever mistake kindness for weakness, this soft spoken DJ is crafty and has done everything imaginable no matter what the scale is. He has rapped on tracks spiting game on females (check the first Urban Flow album), he has produced for some of the most significant emcees Pinas will ever see, fathered the United Freestyles movement, produced the most sought after underground release in Pinas via Down Earf (Ace One x Caliph8), is the corner stone of Pamilia Dimagiba's sound, Pinas' premiere turntablist -- competed for the DMC title once or twice, DJ's across the metro, directs music videos for him and his peers, directing shows, making corporate AVP's -- and still bangs on his MPC to deliver his mixtape for you to trip on!

They did they vinyl hunting in Bangkal, Makati sorry to give it away Arbi

DJ ARBIE WON is The Beat Traveller 2010 VIDEO TRAILER

Arbie is such a crate digger and a visionary ahead of his peers that while everyone was keen into beefs, beats, rhymes and well the flashiness of it all -- he took a camera and started filming. I've seen Arbie film for the longest of time. For what? A documentary to be shown ten years from now? I'll never know and I have given up on trying to figure it out. All I know is, he has documented things every single time -- I wouldn't be surprised to see him enter a film festival should he decide to cut and splice all his videos to an hour and 30 minutes. Arbie and his team also runs Soulsonic -- which started out as a newsletter back in the day and now has shifted to an updated blog site of Filipino Hiphop news.

The making of The Light (United Freestyles Vol.2) Francism x Loonie

DJ ARBIE WON produced my favorite BB CLAN track IWAS PUSOY

News is, he is doing the finishing touches to his 3rd installment of United Freestyles which will include Marquiss, Nyco Maca, Nimbus and more of your favorite emcees. And that Team Manila is designing the CD layout and also coming out with a collaboration shirt under their Daily Grind line. If that isn't POWER, I don't know how else to put it. Rumors has it that DR ARBIE and ILL J will be doing a whole album together. DJ Arbi is constantly doing shows, DJing around the metro -- and now has aligned himself with Locked Down Entertainment -- Arbie is still the corner stone of Corner Eye films and he is still leading the way, and what I truly like about it, is he gets his team involved in everything -- shoutouts to Corner Eye!. His release as The Beat Traveller "Future Past" album has got to be one of the most anticipated DJ release from the Philippines ever.

EVER.

FLIP MUSIC "BIGLANG LIKO" Ron Henley

RON1

Ron Henley feat. Pow Chavez - Biglang Liko (Produced by Bojam of Flip Music)

From the KING OF DOUBLE MEANING IN HIPHOP, Andrew E who ranks at number 23 on my PINAS HIPHOP POWER RANKINGS we move to 1/2 of Stick Figgas' newest song "Biglang Liko", produced by beat monsters FLIP MUSIC. For all my Filipino Americans visiting this page daily, Biglang Liko -- is a common term used to instruct a cab driver that you want to head down to a motel without your girl being embarrassed, hahaha! Learn something new daily my iggins! Pow Chavez lends her vocals -- heard it's been raining in Manila so yeah -- to those high school kids trying to get down on a female, here's one to play in front of your mom and look at her face when she hears it!! I dare you! Hahahaha. Ron Henley is a fucking genius and he's merely just having fun on this track -- I heard Stick Figgas is making tons of tracks nowadays waiting to be unleashed!

On a more momentous note, the picture above was taken by Ryan Andres from the recently concluded DEFENSE Concert in Music Museum -- where by, without Bojam noticing - Jim Poblete played this track right before we had Quest sing the national anthem. Hahahaha!

2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #23

POWER RANKING 23

Andrew E - A.N.D.R.E.W.F.O.R.D

NUMBER 23: ANDREW E./Dongalo Wreckords - this might be the only year Pinas' reigning KING OF RAP won't fall on my TOP 10, which ultimately shows growth amongst the movement and my peers. The pendulum swings and keeps everyone off balance and its great to see the balance isn't kept by one person this year. This ranking has nothing to do with what Andrew E is capable of doing - Andrew E is still constantly in your face via ads, TV shows and guestings and most definitely regional shows in and out the metro. He is still doing 150K a show and reaches out to the people who needs help whenever he can. He recently put out CLUBZILLA which is a departure from what you would normally hear him rock. This year also shows him paying more attention to newer strategies to keep Dongalo's flag stable. Dongalo has been releasing tons of mixtapes throughout the past years, which was never an option for his artists before. We see mixtapes circulated by Jaw Tee, Don G, Khen Magat and more. Andrew E's merchandising doesn't stop -- Dongalo Clothing is heavily being ordered around the world, there was even talks about Dongalo doing collaboration work with Accel, a shoe company making waves back home. He also leads the way with a Satellite Radio show available for everyone via the Dongalo website. On top of all of this, he is now a father to two kids, raising his family and keeping all his business straight.

DONGALO radio promotion in Boracay

News is, Andrew E is currently working on a new studio album and that he is going to be part of a new movie that should be shown in time for the Manila Film Festival
-- we'll see if it pushes through. Andrew E is the second KING OF BORACAY, if you don't know now you know, and that's POWER written all over it. This man has thought me directly and indirectly what I know in developing artists and making decisions in the game. His legacy now opens up another stream line of gratitude as we see Don G head his own Shots Fired Entertainment record label. Don G is slated to make noise this year and news of a possible Gulpe De Gulat album is buzzing -- nothing solid so far but should be exciting to see come to life.

NOTES: Andrew E is a big Michael Jordan fan -- and he is holding down the number 23 spot on my POWER 30 rankings. He is also a self proclaimed "treasure hunter" -- trust me I've seen some of his collections. He has 2 copies of that comics which features Superman's first appearance which at one time was trying to be bought from his hands by the Ayala's.

GRAVER

GRAVER/KST PHILIPPINES OWNS MANILA'S WALLS

NUMBER 24: GRAVER/KST PHILIPPINES - I met Graver a couple of years back when he didn't reside in the Philippines. SBA CRU, Philippines first graffiti team, brought him over my spot to bomb a big ass defunct factory wall. At that time, he was 15 still debating whether to go to college in Pinas or not -- by the time the moon came up, he put down the most eye popping tag on that wall, which now is used as a wall by some of the people who decided to build a house next to that wall. A year later, I not only hear he's around but when I drive by roads around Manila -- I see his throw ups, it got him in trouble at times too I heard. I remember one time riding the train to a meeting -- passing by cars above the rails, I see tags by him across EDSA. It made me feel like a takeover, unseen by many, was happening. For me, and forgive my ignorance -- but he single handedly inspired a new generation of street artists. His is easily the most recognizable body of work we've come across within the past few years. And these dudes don't necessarily listen to hiphop - OPM hiphop at that but they are feeding the culture in ways they're palettes can fuse. Ten years from now, with enough documentation -- I tell you, you are already witnessing a legend bomb Manila's walls and beyond. Word to your momma.

TEAM STRATO

It ain't hiphop to me if we dont ALSO hit the clubs neegi.

NUMBER 25: STRATOSPHERE PRODUCTIONS - Nick Hernandez is a self made man in the scene. Dude came from the same school I came from. Early on, didn't display much interest in hiphop, and at the height of everyone wanting to be a club promoter he started his own company after working for another club promotions company. I tell you, I didnt quite buy it at first but dude showed heart and showed Manila how to party. Team Strato is responsible for our last bid of The Community show -- this translated to Nick looking at local artists differently. There were times Nick put some acts under his wing and I still yet to really hear of those acts make it out his fences. What I truly love about TEAM STRATO is they young businessmen -- several nights a week holding it down no matter how far these clubs are, on top of that they scene is live! Treating local acts with prestige and pushing us up in the mix. Team Strato has expanded this year but maintained a good core to help push high caliber events such as LOVE REVOLUTION -- and keep Manila's party shining. Their parties also help give b-boys and dancers a home to throw down at, as they've embraced the dance community like no other club promotions company in Manila has. Shoutouts to Maddy, Pio, Nicole, Janeen and the rest of the team!

TEAM STARTO

TAKEN FROM THEY'RE COMPANY PROFILE "Lifestyle Company dealing with high end bars, promotions, corporate and private functions as well as supporting homegrown artists, models, designers and more. Bringing in a new wave of entertainment alternatives to the Filipino community. Bringing events to a Higher Level. The creative forces behind the group evolved to innovate the night life in Manila. Stratosphere Productions is about the experience of the inspired lifestyle at its finest."

Beyond Beyond PART 2 Entry 1 "LEAVE ME"

A recent widower deals with his grief through his wife's broken camera.

Beyond Beyond Part 2 is in the works. Bumped into this video today and well, dedicated to all my shutterbugs. Film is more emotion invoking than music at times and the feelings you are able to get out of people watching while relaying a story is limitless. As I would always put, imagination is the fabric of life. Enjoy your day kids!

Dedicated to Papang, I miss you.

WIPCAPS

WIPCAPS enters the Power Rankings at Number 26

NUMBER 26: WIPCAPS - Fitted caps have been part of hiphop accessories since back in the day, Starter Caps to New Era fitted caps have played a big role in forming icons in the world of hiphop. WIPCAPS is a company owned by several people who love fitted caps. I've met most of the partners and they are nice dudes who embrace the connection of style and music. They have ultimately supported hiphop acts, events and are slowly putting their brand out there. Why they are Number 26 this year is off of sheer risk and balls to be the number one icon cap provider in Pinas. Trust me, I know my fitted cap game. They are now even open to collaboration caps, currently selling the MNL Rice fitted caps which benefits Gawad Kalinga. You've been seeing they're products rocked by your favorite emcees day in and day out (LDP, TURBULENCE, PEOPLES FUTURE, AMPON), we gave away a couple of their caps at the DEFENSE concert last May 20, they made a cap specially designed to promote Bugsy, a bar in Ortigas -- Team WIPCAPS are visionaries and is aimed into promoting their brand across any industry. Catch the clip below, a trailer they have been using for the GREATEST OF ALL TIME cap they are releasing soon. Prolly before the Pacman - Mayweather bout, just a wild guess.

GREATEST OF ALL TIME coming out soon.

Taken from their official website: "Pac-Q G.O.A.T. Celebrates what we feel is a very rare achievement in all of sports. For a Filipino to accomplish this incredible feat makes WIP Caps extremely proud to be releasing this limited edition piece. So go grab one before stocks run out and wear a piece of history."

"International swag up, breed of a champion

2010 SOULFIESTA Pinas Hiphop Power Rankings #27

POWER RANKING 27

Young JV had a very productive year at Number 27

NUMBER 27: Young JV - from releasing his debut album, this dude has had a hectic schedule to live up to. Shows in and out the metro, TV guestings on ASAP; QTV and more, doing the club circuit, pumping in music for the radios, doing justice to his commercial songs by providing eye candy videos, and keeping himself on magazines and news prints. This cat may very well won my vote for Rookie of the Year -- putting his money where his mouth is. Young cats are bound to make mistakes and well the pressures of organizing your career gets crazy everyday -- but yeah well, he's in the mix.

Young JV - That Girl (Produced by The Beat Shop)

This dude performed for The Community show, hung around the Tuesday Troop mansion and had Kane do some of his beats and consequently the now defunct Beat Shop team as well. This kid will be a force to reckon with as soon as he understands the balance between the business behind his deals and the uplifting responsibility he has for the culture by taking command of his next few decisions. I have an eye for vision and this kid will turn things around and open doors for heads who've supported him since day one.
