ILL K Entry 87 "SPECKS x LOONIE"

PILIPINO LANG AKO PAGNANALO SI PACQUIAO!!!

Specks is on the come up in 2011! I was a witness to the birth of this new partnership between Philippines top MC, Loonie and Philippines top urban entrepreneur, Mark Bandigan (We Legendary, Specks). This new marriage of concept stems from Mark Bandigan taking notice of the Pacquiao phenomenon -- but rooted deeper than the boxers wits and wins.

And though there have been a unified battle cry to take pride in your nation because a fighter of this caliber has risen to international acclaim - the message is quite clear, that we must keep on being Manny Pacquiao ourselves and not just rely on Manny Pacquiao's contribution to our national pride.

Go out and get your medals kids. But first go out and get the product behind this campaign! Be the pride you aspire people to take pride on.

ILL K Entry 86 "PARAISO x GRAE"

PARAISO

Marquiss feat. Labo, God's Will & Loonie - Paraiso (Produced by Chrizo)

Last November 2010, we released the Greatest Rap Album Ever (GRAE) which was entirely produced by Chrizo. Here's a track off that same album with some heavyweights listed as guests. We have Labo -- who's an original member of Lyrical Assault -- the group Chill signed to her Illicit Records, dunno if I spelled that right. We have our very own God's Will -- who is currently promoting a single "BIG DREAMS" on WAVE 89.1 off his Pinoy Hollywood project with Pino G and of course we have Loonie gracing the track as well. Need I explaing further? Well, this is a track where Marquiss holds his own against this tagalog spitting MCS -- he threw down a 16 bar tagalog verse of his own.

GRAE is still available for purchase at all We Legendary stores - Kamuning, Ronac Centre Greenhills and in Davao for 250PHP, or you can leave your orders via mr.soulfiesta@gmail.com or +639162702713. We ship outside Metro Manila as well.

ILL K Entry 82 "HEART IN FLAMES"

DASH

Dash feat. Artstrong - Heart In Flames (Produced by Dash)

FROM DIGGITY DASH: I wrote this song, Heart In Flames back in 2007. I had personal problems going on and with all that happening I made a beat then the words. That time Artstrong was also working on the Elite Star Pilots track for The Transformers Movie & ESP Project (Shoutout to my boy Deeleet!!) and asked if he could do the hook. He did and ultimately killed it!!

My inspiration for making this track was Transformers, Manny PacQ, Jay-Z's "Fade To Black" movie and just personal triumphs and lows. Still relevant in our daily lives just like when Michael Jordan said at the end of his Hall Of Fame induction speech "Never say never because limits like fear are often an illusion".

When you take risk in life and get to do the hardest thing
Stay focused on your goal, cause you don't know what tomorrow will bring
When you Eenvision yourself to be what you ever dreamed
STAY FOCUS ON YOUR GOAL, KEEP YOUR HEART IN FLAMES

As Filipinos, we're passionate people to the fullest. Even if we're struggling we still have time to smile. Our hearts are made of gold & with God in it. He's the fuel that fires you're heart. This track will be on my project called "Return Of The Phunky Juan". It's my soundtrack to the streets and clubs as well, but it's more on the foundation, some real Hip Hop ish, all in all, 10 tracks.

The reason for the title ss to bring sack that old funk that's been missing. If y'all know your Flip-Hop history, Legit Misfitz's first album, we had a track called "Phunky Juan De la Cruz", and this project is close to a stretched part 2. Creativity, quality and a good heart for the culture is the main ingredient of this album. I got major guest MC's blessing it, with beats by my production outfit "BEATS OF THE NORTH STAR".

It won't stop even after this, we're here to serve, protect and to preserve The Kulture Of Hip Hop in it's positive state. "PEACE UNITY LOVE AND HAVING FUN" these are the words of Afrika Bambataa and "I AM HIP HOP" from KRS-ONE (Temple/Gospel Of Hip Hop). A big shoutout to everyone who's been a part of Mighty Joe's life, ya'll know who you are, much love & respect. I would like to leave you with a verse from this track:

Eyes gently open at the crack of dawn,
Yes Im waking up to a brand new morning
Jump in the shower brush my teeth to give it a gleam
Time to get A move on, gotta get that cream
Walkin' out the door with ambitions hopes and dreams
Keep my eyes on the prize while im workin out a scheme
Survival by any means never lettin my guard down
Heart of a Champ in flames like Manny Pacquiao

Thank you B-Roc, big ups to Soul Fiesta!

Sa isang bangka magsama-sama, thats MY DREAM.

ILL K Entry 81 "BOB/WHO YOU ARE"

HEEMY

Raheem Devaughn - BOB

Photobucket

Jessie J - Who You Are

Downloaded Raheem's new mixtape "Heemy Taught Me" and he got a lot of good tracks -- baby makin' music right here. I especially loved this joing "B.O.B." which stands for Battery Operated Boyfriend -- check the breakdown on this joint, talking about Marvin Gaye and some 70's soul shit. Definitely a head board squeaker song.

My brother Rhys put me into listening to Jessie J last weekend and Ive been hooked every since. Her song Price Tag with BOB is currently being played around the metro and girl could write. In the lines of a more sober and introspective Amy Winehouse with more knock out hiphop drums for a pop album -- she got my attention. Listening to this song "WHO YOU ARE" -- clearly reinforces my thoughts on sometimes, music can be the outlet that tells us the world is moving too fast. As much as we feel like being left behind, we still have to naturally grow into maturity so lets take our time. Amazing song, there is also a live version on the album. I say go and download or maybe purchase the album.

SUMMER ANTHEM OF 2011 "HERE TO OWN IT"

SARAH MEIER

BONG

LOONIE H2O

LDP - Here To Own It (Produced by Jim P and Bojam of Flip Music)

Pictures by Ryan Andres, more behind the scenes pictures soon. I have come to conclude that from last years summer song "So Wonderful" we have moved into a grind heavy season -- hiphop after all laid so much ground work over the years, and this years summer will be spent acknowledging new work and getting our homeworks done. Hiphop has transcended music but has moved up into the business ranks, entrepreneurs -- which ultimately creates a synergy of passion and result. This years summer anthem is HERE TO OWN IT by the best hiphop group in the Philippines, LDP. Let your summer be filled with fun, good memories and results that will change your lives.

I SALUTE YOU, HIPHOP.

VOTE HERE TO OWN IT send to 2366

FROM RJAY OF LDP: THE MOVERS OF TODAY ARE THE OWNERS OF TOMORROW. That explains the idea and the message of the song right away. We want everyone to keep it moving which is why we chose to have real identities involved in the Music Video (Director Dominic Nuesa's idea).

We do not want your attention to fixate on hiphop music alone so we handpicked friends of ours who we think are the movers of today's local scene to fill up our cast. From rappers to singers, designers to entrepreneurs, composers to producers, models to hosts, & athletes to artists. You name it we got it!

Watch and listen to what we have to say. The future looks bright from where we stand.

Mr. Deranged some may say I'm mental
A fist to the face to keep my name off your dental
Its elemental, his rhymes evidential
But he was screaming so loud you would think he's heavy metal
I got this I got that credibility to back that
Hop up on my track, in reality you sound wack
Real talk I ain’t tryna hate though
If you's a real mc how come you sitting on the bench bro
Irrelevant, kill it for the hell of it
Blowing out your candles you would think you was a celebrant
Uninvited guest I'm a tyrant at your resident
Make a lucky guess I devour and leave no remnants
Terminate to educate I’m messing with your mental state
The fight you should anticipate, I'm heavy you just featherweight
LDP confederate, you should probably relocate
Theres a price on your head and you know that I am well awake

Y’all can keep on hating I don’t care yeah it’s alright
Cause I get a lot of love plus these girls fine
Got my mind on my money steady grind time
Shining brighter never stopping till the world’s mine
Never stopping, never stopping till the world’s mine (4x)

Though how many times you try you can never break my dream
Break my team, make believe but you can’t kill my self-esteem
Kingin’ and killin’ it in the game, that’s how we do
Living by doing the right thing, those my people
We gon’ reign we’ll take a seat on our throne
Pop patron let’s share a toast to them sticks and ‘em stones
Here’s for the haters, for the doubter and the douch-ies
Look back at it man it’s better than a mo-vie
See what they say don’t matter what matter’s what we say
We choose our own path don’t settle for lee ways
Keep praying with faith and move it to make it happen
Only you can help yourself so mix some action with that passion
Everlasting it’s forever once that you find inner peace
Life’s a puzzle that you solve by finding that missing piece
You can’t buy it with cash you gotta learn to earn it
Work, sacrifice, burn and in return it’s worth it

Y’all can keep on hating I don’t care yeah it’s alright
Cause I get a lot of love plus these girls fine
Got my mind on my money steady grind time
Shining brighter never stopping till the world’s mine
Never stopping, never stopping till the world’s mine (4x)

Make no mistake I’m in the game to put all of you to the test
Make no mistake is exactly my formula for success
Been a perfectionist ever since I was born to be the best there is
Destined to lead Philippine Hiphop to its exodus
Get rid of the pestilence the rest of us should know
That I am more than just a prophet I’m a testament of hope
And I am full of myself call me a bastard truly bold
But if I never came to be the freaking standards would be low
Yo I’m here to own it, here to own the game and mold it
Into something I’d be proud of every time that I would hold it
Make it golden and open make it everybody’s token
Make a change think of a thousand ways to recreate the broken
Here to own it, my lyrical style is branded as an asset
And with a flow so great every song I make’s a classic,
After classic after classic

And you don’t gotsta ask it whatever is the limit to this rapture
I surpassed it
, make no mistake about it

Y’all can keep on hating I don’t care yeah it’s alright
Cause I get a lot of love plus these girls fine
Got my mind on my money steady grind time
Shining brighter never stopping till the world’s mine
Never stopping, never stopping till the world’s mine (4x)

Never stopping never stopping no (4x)
Shining brighter never stopping till the world’s mine (Uh-oh) (2x)

ILL K Entry 80 "REST IN PEACE BIG L"

BIG L

BIG-L - MVP ILL K REMIX (Produced by Chrizo)

Its an open debate which rapper could be crowned the King of New York; Jay-z, Nas, Biggie. Arguements left and right, and no one would be on the same page. And while these three names will forever be mentioned, we at ILL K, pay tribute to one of New York's best - BIG L. ILL K is not about playing number two, its about being the best at what you do and creating a lasting legacy that separtes you from the rest. While success on paper earns you bragging rights in this art form, the song, its structure and punchlines ultimately cement your artistry for a lifetime. I will let two ILL K visionaries tell you how compelling of an MC BIG L will forever be. This limited ILL K x BIG L commemorative shirt is available at We Legenday Ronac and Kamuning and is sold at 700 PHP. Get yours now!!

AS TOLD BY PHD: Everyone has a hero, an influence. Whatever path we choose, we use this influential figure as a guide to what we are achieving to become. Basketball will always have Michael Jordan. Comedy has Richard Prior, Bernie Mack, Chris Rock. Beatmaking has DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Dilla. Emceeing? To a kid who desperately wanted to spit on a microphone, who better to pattern himself to than Harlem, New York’s Lamont Coleman, a.k.a. Big L.

Facts and tracks I recite well
Everybody wanna be like Mike, but Mike wanna be like L

Nobody had a style like Big L when he came out. Punchlines set up perfectly, multi-syllabic rhyming scheme, clean delivery - all matched with wit, humor, and fierceness. Every time I listen to his intense verses, he leaves me in awe. His two studio albums still have me shaking my head figuring out how we has able to formulate and deliver with such precision. I remember reading The Source regarding singling out lines from songs, and he had the number one punchline. He could have easily made half of the top 10. He stacked his verses with clever lines that was sampled in the past and will be sampled in the future.

In street brawls I strike men, quicker than lightning
You seen what happened in my last fight friend? Aight then!

Who can forget his freestyle session with Jay-Z? The ’98 freestyle? Dude was just on another level. He was so good, he was supposed to be the first artist signed to Roc-A-Fella Records, imagine that. He was head and shoulders above 90% of the emcees in terms of skill level. He birthed the Harlem flow. Peep Murda Mase and Killa Cam – they are products of Big L’s style and together they formed Children of the Corn. He was bound to be successful in the mainstream without losing his street credibility. Sadly, just like his rhyming pedigree, he was taken, ahead of his time.

Turn your tux red, I’m far from broke, got enough bread
And mad hoes, ask Beavis, I get nuthin’ but head

Big L’s legacy lives on. No one still comes close, more than a decade after he crafted his rhymes. His lines remain timeless. The most valuable poet on the M-I-C.

Rest in peace, King.

ILL K Entry 79 "KINGDOM COME"

ILL KINGS

ILLEGITIMATE KINGS CLOTHING AVAILABLE AT WELEGENDARY NOW

Illegitimate Kings in the building! Over the past few months we've been developing the brand, countless designs, revisions and campaigns. ILL K is a partnership between me and PHD, who has been helping me develop the brand, so split the props to his contributions and patience for the line to finally see the light of day. ILL K's roots comes from me being struck by a line from one of Arkane's songs which ultimately fed the idea of counquering kingdoms not necessarily laid out or inherited.

The household is a decent representation of what a kingdom is nowadays, and we grew up thinking our fathers are Kings. His career, his way of ruling -- his kingship is something we consequently inherit. We are all kings, of different kingdoms. It is a choice to inherit the kingdom or choose a different path. Illegitimate Kings, the brand -- stands for the passion inside you to choose a different path, to build your own road, to fight the battles to conquer new lands and forge a new kingdom all together.

Be it art, another vocation, another career, an old passion, a new venture -- KING IT. This is what WE stand for. The choice to ultimately turn your back from what you've been molded to do, to pursue what you were born to do at all costs.

This first batch of prints are exclusively available at We Legendary Kamuning and Ronac as limited editions. Get yours, available for PHP 550, or send your orders via illegitimatekings2011@gmail.com and be the first to rock it!

B-ROC - My Love (Produced by B-Roc)

And being that this is the official release of ILL K, we are also letting go of an unreleased song entitled "MY LOVE". Written around 2006, off the strength of The Community shows and the love I was being shown by everyone for helping hiphop catch another milestone. I say its a delicate position to be in, my team will always be why I get the love I get. Enjoy the music, it means alot to us that you do!

Kept believing in myself, dependent on love
Planted my dreams with God, and He did show love
Studied the game from a far, played my role on the bench
Gave daps to the stars, time learning well spent
Seasons come and go, but my love never withered
Patiently waiting like Excaliber in that river
I'm a king in my own right, lead my people to new heights
With sound mind & judgment, turntables and Shure mics
