Killastormz & Kat Alano - Too Many Things (Produced by Chrizo)

Its Weekly Beats tuesday again and Chrizo serves you up a feast - lyrical giant Killastormz drops 2 verses on this joint with Kat Alano lacing the hook on some soothing jazzy overtone. Scratches by DJ Excaliber -- and I heard, a Nimbusnine verse is suppose to make its way to this song.

H2O

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTOR OF HERE TO OWN IT

Do not vote for LDP's "Here to Own It" on MYX.

We are no longer in the countdown. After three weeks of moving up the charts, we have been entirely excluded in the fourth. We cannot make conclusions, but MYX has said that there has been a change in syntax during that week, and COULD have filtered the votes elsewhere.

We are honor bound to tell those of you who have joined our quest to push it towards the #1 spot to stop spending your texts needlessly. It is only ethical that we ask this since a P2.50 text over a music video out of the race is P2.50 wasted.

Though we would have liked a phenomenal run at the countdown, it is only one of the many goals that we have for the “Here to Own It” movement. We are currently in the process of hosting an event that showcases the exceptional talents of today’s artists and musicians. Everyone is invited to partake in this celebration.

We would like to thank MYX for supporting a song that embodies the independent culture and the next generation of artists and entrepreneurs. We hope that our mutual gain has strengthened the bond of network and independent hip-hop, and that we may continue working towards a future that sounds a little better than yesteryears.

Our biggest gratitude goes to LDP’s fans, whose undying support has helped us enter the countdown in the first place. And as grateful as we are, we are also apologetic. Every single text had the intentions of spurring art form to mainstream, and not having achieved that, we are sorry.

However, we still have the intentions of spurring art form to art form, and for that our word is, and shall always be, iron. You can still watch the music video on YouTube where it will stay there as long as technology allows and rest assured, we’ll be coming out with better songs and videos.

Rjay will have the last word this time:

“We choose our own path don’t settle for lee ways”

LYRICAL EMPIRE: THE MOVIE

Lyrical Empire: Hip Hop in Metro Manila from FilAm Funk Productions on Vimeo.

2 years ago, when I moved to Singapore I chance upon meeting Mark V online. He had asked about the hiphop scene in the Philippines as he was trying to get a grant to film something in the motherland. After a trip back home, during my last day he was actually flying in -- I told some people to take care of him and show him around. He shot what was necessary for his piece and took off.

He entered this short film into some festivals and gave us range - this film was viewed by countless other races besides Filipinos back home. According to him, we would stir questions and discussions during open forums after viewing the film. No one from where he was thought all this hiphop shit going on in the motherland was even possible - and for it to be as good as it is showed us in a whole different light. While it is interesting to know what our Filipino counterparts thought of our struggles, we also welcome the interest of these foreigners.

This film features the likes of The Philippine All Stars, LDP, Blaze n Kane, Dash, your favorite artists from Turbulence Productions and a whole lot more.

And at last, Mark V is opening this film for public viewing - it was launched and had an intimate screening back in December via Jerome B Smooth, and it went really well. I hope you give this film a chance and enjoy the lessons learned, regardless how minuscule it might be. Here are some words from the producer/director/visionaire of the film.

FROM MARK V: Take a glimpse into the lives of hip hop artists from a country where hip hop culture is under constant scrutiny from a skeptical public. What will it take for these artists to prove their skills? Will hip hop become big in the Philippines, or will it be forever discarded as "jologs," underclass, and uncultured? These hardworking hip hop heads show you the passion and style they bring to the game where lyrical boundaries blur and innovation is prized.

I'm honored to have worked with such amazing artists and visionaries for this film. Please visit the Lyrical Empire label for more information about this project, including past screenings. Screenings and discussions are continuing in classrooms all over the country!

ILL K Entry 97 "COULD YOU BE LOVE OR BE LOVED?"

MARLEY

Bob Marley on how to love a woman. Kinging it, all day.

“You may not be her first, her last, or her only. She loved before she may love again. But if she loves you now, what else matters? She’s not perfect - you aren’t either, and the two of you may never be perfect together but if she can make you laugh, cause you to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto her and give her the most you can. She may not be thinking about you every second of the day, but she will give you a part of her that she knows you can break - her heart. So don’t hurt her, don’t change her, don’t analyze and don’t expect more than she can give. Smile when she makes you happy, let her know when she makes you mad, and miss her when she’s not there.

ILL K Entry 93 "YAMAN"

Verb of Peoples Future - Yaman (Produced by Jedli)

Anak ako ni Francis Magalona, no doubt. This track is best summed up that way. Besides the under lying genius behind the message, as a fan and spectator of the growth of PF - I cannot hide how Francis M's passion for our masses is seen in their music. Francis M showed us to be political, a-political, partial and impartial but still took a stand for the miseries we suffer daily. This track "YAMAN" by Vito Cruz's finest - depicts something we obviously know but still keep our minds and mouths shut about it.

Enjoy this video to end your week, props to PF!!

ILL K Entry 92 "QYORK DOC-Q-MENTARY"

Catch their new album "Q-York City" dropping next month! Yuoy!

Some people get some simple facts twisted. Q-yorks now club sounding dance heavy influenced songs symbolize growth and not just their commercial viability in this ever changing climate in music! Knowa is still one of the top 10 emcees in the Philippines simply cause of his work ethic and journey alone. I had chanced upon watching this video when I was at the Q-York head quarters and trust me, its something worth watching.

Despite coming from the United States - we do share the same goals, and thru this documentary you can now see the difference between you and Q-York, their ability to commit to the sacrifice it will take to take it all to the next level. I know that they moved from NYC to LA, then moved to LA to MLA PHL, then from putting together a whole album as O.N.E. (Ken Johns x Chelo x Qyork), disbanding after the album got done, putting together Chelo's already genius song "Pinays Rise" to now finally moving to the Q-York City album release.

The commitment they manage to put into what the end goal is, is something we should all pick up from. And you guys dont even know the amount of work they put in the studio on a daily basis and still rock for causes around the metro. That being said, watch out for the new album - new video "Yuoy!" and new songs from Q-York.

ALMOST TECHNICOLOR SOLVES A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA

APLM - DELIBERATE EXISTENCE (Produced by Almost Technicolor)

This track was sent to me courtesy of Ms. APLM (A Problem Like Maria) - and I must say, this got me a little excited! The instrumentation alone had my face melting, sounding great with that almost Mayer Hawthorne vibe but even more exquisite with the horns. And the decadence of the female rap parts, one of the most refreshing tracks I've heard from Manila in awhile.

Yes you might not know of this APLM/Maria woman - but she's been holding it down for a minute now. With a self imposed hiatus from hiphop and delved in to other musical inspirations, she released an EP before and now found a new drive to record new material. She also does covers of her favorite songs!

Visit her blog, check the link below -- she records and releases her covers of songs on a daily basis. Also, she is dropping 2 EP projects in the next two months. This June 1 - a 3 song all original EP and on July 17, an EP filled with covers from Billie Holiday! If you thought hiphop was only 3 dimensional, think again. This music covers more bases than you think!

Kudos to this exciting new track from Maria!

BEAUTIFUL DAY

A.N.E. - Beautiful Day (Produced by Jalil)

Today, on this very hot sunday we give you some feel good music courtesy of Mr. Grape Jordans, A.N.E.. This song is produced by Jalil who also is credited for the wonderful picture used for the poster. Arni and Jalil are part of The Expansion Team, and despite Jalil being under the radar rapping wise - he is slowly cementing a good position as a beat maker with these kind of beats. Also, the hook consists of a sample and has singing elements from Danee herself! Ultra-rare moment taking part in her man's song via vocal recording. Gives that Little Brother x De La Soul feel to it!

Its a beautiful day today, playing Team Sunday ball later; Mavs got a ticket to the finals should OKC's youth do then wrong, MIA x CHI goes down this week -- and alot to be openly happy about, ask Quest. Blessing you with good music today kids!

ILL K Entry 90 "HERE TO OWN IT (VIDEO)"

LDP - Here To Own It (Directed by Dominic Nuesa)

From the same director of Back To Love, and from this new decades best urban group LDP - comes a marriage of ideas dating back a year before it release. Soulfiesta proudly brings you "HERE TO OWN IT". Independently hitting the MYX charts to a high of number 14 then through network politics and interests where wiped out of the countdown despite over flowing votes from the public, we are releasing the video to help share the vision the charts couldn't handle.

Here To Own It x Dominic Nuesa

December 2009, I contacted LDP about a music video proposal. I believe you can still find pictures of that meeting on Facebook. We met in a coffee shop in MOA amidst the holiday horde. We decided that I was to do a video on “Simple Lang” or “What If”. After much, much thinking and deliberation, I decided “Simple Lang”, however timeless, have already been released too long. “What If” would have been awesome too, but truth be told, I didn’t want LDP’s first official music video to be a lamentation on an otherwise lush and thriving culture in Hip Hop.

LDP needs a song that could represent. WE need LDP to represent.

Last year we had another meeting. This time, we chose to do it behind closed doors (No pictures of it on facebook). We finally decided on “Taking Backkk the City”, with the simple concept of shooting them in front of a wall being worked on by graffiti artists.

Meh.

January 2011, Rjay sent me a whole bunch of tracks. Some were unfinished. One beat stood out in particular (Jim Poblete’s brilliance), with only Alex’s and Rjay’s raw verses and a simple chorus that needed refining. Right then and there, I knew we were about to do something awesome. I chose that sound clip (you will hardly call it a song) for what it was: An Anthem.

Another closed door meeting ensued. I showed them what I wanted to do, everybody gets
excited. Abra came in, showed Alex and Rjay his verse for the song and suddenly the two wanted to rewrite theirs. Epic. I gave Rjay the responsibility of gathering the cast or “subjects”. Why subjects? I’d like to think of it more of a documentary, shooting them in their own environment, without any acting involved.

I’m going to shoot them as they represented. Where’s the acting in that?

Three day shoot, three locations: The Collective, Ronac Art Center, Cubao Expo. In our first shot, Cinematographer Micah Fernandez was in charge of making Graffiti artist Kookoo look dope. Hell, she looked iconic (her shot was the thumbnail of our trailer). I call good take, and we were on our way.

The project evolved from music video to a whole new movement. We shot entrepreneurs,
artists and musicians in their element, looking swag as they represented their respective arts. Even the models were modeling themselves, and not some brand. Photographer Ryan Andres helped out behind the scenes with his 35mm camera, and the result was an art project independent of the music video. Bojam of Flipmusic flipped the beat, and took the music production to a whole new level. Everyone did their part and more. Everyone owned it.

But whatever it is that we wanted to own, whatever it is that we took as ours and ours alone, we will share it with the rest of the world. This is no longer just a song or a music video. It’s a statement that we’re making. We have to own it because we want to share it.

It was an honor to work with everyone involved. And in behalf of the movement, it was an honor to make everyone involved. Press play, enjoy, and on to the next one.

LDPeace!

Think of a thousand ways to recreate the broken. Make it golden.

Barangay Tibay has opened they arms to hiphop since day one, Mike Swift, Nimbus, Gods Will, Jonan Aguilar, 187 Mobstaz and Stick Figgas has performed and burned stages with the best the rock circuit has to offer. SPECKS x LOONIE x PACQUIAO

Purchase your shirts before the fight! Available at WL Kamuning & Ronac

"Pilipino lang ako pagnananalo si Pacquiao" - a very honest line for Loonie's The Bobo Song. That song alone has tons of quotables, which in shows how culturally moving hiphop has become in the past few years.

This line transcends what it means for the nation. We recently came with news that 12 out of the 24 Senators plus over 100 congressmen and women are flying out to watch Pacman this weekend - showing support, showing pride of one of our own. The session in congress opens on May 9, which ultimately saws more than half of our law makers and nation builders will be absent.

The whole Pacquiao phenomenon has brought us recognition worldwide, has brought money and commerce to our third world economy, has stopped our crime rates while he fights, has brought excitement back to our sports since the PBA isnt generating the lay mans interest anymore but more importantly - Pacquiao has given our Fil American brothers and identity they can be proud of growing up in a place where our race might be looked down upon.

Also, the shirt intends you to check yourself, why are you proud to be a Pacquiao spectator? Cause he is winning? Cause he won or cause he has a rags to riches story that we all want? Be the next Pacquiao in the field that you can deliver most for your country.

Loonie - The Bobo Song (The Beatmonx)

These lawmakers should stop being just proud of him and going to watch a fight don't make up for being absent in the field that 90 million people trust them with. We should all cater to a role that makes our nation better. Look closely into the shirt, and there is a hidden print of Loonie explaining what this line means to him, it was also written in his penmanship then digitized into printing.

Kudos to Specks for this collaboration shirt! Available on May 7 in all We Legendary stores! Its funny when you wear this and people read it and look at the awkwardness in their faces cause they just read the truth! This shirt makes people feel dumb knowing they all participated in degrading our race and were less proud at one point!
