Join The Quest Entry 16 "THE LAUNCH"
Understand that this night is owned by more than one person. The energy that was built to hype up this launch was 11 years in the making. You can feel it and smell it in the Manila breeze that something different was meant to happen this night. 4PM we hit the sound check with Portable Sounds at the venue -- 7PM, we headed to the new Eastwood City Mall, Event Factory which served as the venue for some early cocktails, finger food and the press conference. The press conference was hosted by Speedy G of Music Update Live fame. Quest was interviewed by the host of his background and Quest gave back the gratitude of being embraced by the industry to his peers. Jumbo "Bojam" De Belen of Flip Music was in attendance alongside his wife and Ninks; Mike Swift, J-Hon, Dominic Nuesa, Abby Asistio, Rex D, JR, Chrizo, Margaux Cortez, Ryan Andres, Cristina were all there in support of Quest. A Q&A portion ensued as the press through relevant questions at Quest, and with every impressive answer, true to form -- Quest made a lasting impression of positiveness, talent, vision, passion and love to the press.
Song after song, he threaded the hearts of people and pulled out a couple of surprises. Quest then brought out hiphop's Illegitimate Kings to share the stage. Quest performed Burno Mars' Just The Way You Are with PHD, a freestyle session on stage that saw Abra, Datu, Rex D, Apekz and Knowa Lazarus give the audience their due share of Quest's hiphop background. Quest then brought in Yeng Constantino to do their rendition of B.O.B.'s Airplanes -- Mike Swift came and rocked the 2nd verse and then bringing out Loonie to rock a 16 which brought the house down. At this point, the entire place was buzzing with energy showing people that hiphop in Pinas has finally arrived at a place where our musicianship is respected and is gaining entertainment value across peoples misconceptions. The Jeepney Love Story REMIX by Yeng & Quest was performed to the surprise of the Yeng Constantino fans!
Quest then moved the crowd and kept then within arms reach, touching the people throughout his last few songs. "BACK TO LOVE" saw people singing along and while singing his 2nd single "PARTY LIFE" -- he then breaks down the song to a blend of Shout For Joy -- and without hesitation, inviting Mr. Pure Energy himself to the stage to sing his song. At this point, the entire plaza was seeing a very historic moment in OPM. Where we meet the old and new half way, with style and grace and when we make OUR PIONEERS OUR FANS BY SHOWING THEM HOW WE ARE TAKING CARE OF THEIR LEGACY. Seeing Quest perform and Gary V taking a back seat to let Quest enjoy his shine is a blessing to all struggling artists in the country.
Quest then closes the show via "YOU AND ME" -- if you have the album and you notice that during the last parts of the song he would just commence into thanking people, he did the same thing too. Going down the stage and bringing the microphone around and just shaking hands with his peers and fans alike. Making sure that the people understand that an artists goal is to be heard and upon this kind of attention, it is important that you give the same love back to your audience. Longevity in the local music scene is unheard of these days -- and it took an 11 year journey to make this album, Quest secures his artistry in the hearts of those who patiently waited for him to get to this night.
The night ended with people buying his cd and lining up for his signature -- a very thriving and hopeful scene that showed that the performing arts of music is what drives the CD sales and not the marketing value of the act.

DON G "LEGEND KILLER"
I loved the song the way it was recorded so much, that I was hesitant to just place a hook on it. -- I told Don G lets sit on it for while, and I chanced on DJ Bangin and he gave it a more classic hiphop appreal, very Primo-esque scratches on the hook! Thanks man! The same time Don G came up with the hook for this, I had already left for Singapore, so there might be an alternate version of this song with a hook on it. He recently shot the video, which ultimately means I will be releasing the song for download very soon, but for now enjoy this video of the song.

CHAMP feat. RON THUG - 3AM CONSCIENCE
Champ feat. Ron Thug - 3AM Conscience (Produced by B-Roc)
Beard Muscle, all day. I remember Champ giving me a call telling me he found an Urbandub song that had a dope loop and can be sampled. I remember him sending it to me, and I remember making the beat at Ron's place. We were editing the Booked Me A Flight video and simultaneously releasing Thinking Mans Hiphop -- I was fucking with the sample and this is what we came up with. When I finished making the beat, we all sat down and thought of what possible topic they could come up with for it. I mean I've been around Champ and Ron too long to understand their strength and weakness -- this was done after they did they renditions of PUT ON and HUSTLIN'. I was impressed with their team up and wanted to showcase it on a song. Something dramatic, some Soulfiesta shit.

JOIN THE QUEST Entry 11 "TO THE BILLBOARD"
QUEST ALBUM LAUNCH BILLBOARD, SHOULD BE AROUND C5 SOON!!
To The Billboard x Join The Quest. No man is self-made, because at one point -- there would always be someone who would help you create your own platform. Today, my email was sent this jpeg file of the possible billboard of Quest's upcoming launch this OCT 21, and it feels great. It feels awesome to now begin to really share the fruits of 11 years of labor. I am speaking as if I am Quest, but you gotta understand the 11 years it took to reach this platform is no quest for one person alone. What of success if it ain't about changing other peoples lives?
The rehearsals are doing great, Quest's band is meshing pretty well and will be top notch by the time of the launch, there is a rumor of a Turbulence medley coming to bless this stage, write up for Inquirer in the works, the music video for the second single will be shot soon. So yeah, when we say To The Billboard, it NEVER meant that when we reached one it was the end of it all -- it MUST be your short term thinking that got you thinking you got it figured out!
Good things come to those who wait.

ILL K Entry 76 "FRANCIS M POSSE PIC"
Picture taken by Francis Magalona, recently released by Syke
I remember Francis Magalona calling me, and I had to step out of my Makati condo and stay in the hall way to entertain his call. He read me the entire article over the phone. He started with the history of hiphop both internationally and how it sprung in Pinas, then he went on and described contributions made by my colleagues in keeping the scene relevant. Good article, and whats the most moving about it is hearing him take pride in the little we've accomplished and it was deserving of his attention.
Bittersweet I tell you, looking at this pic.
Thank you Syke for releasing this picture.
ILL K Entry 75 "CHUB-B MANABAT"
Chub-B feat. Toney Chrome - Gising (Produced by B-Roc)
Rest in peace, hustler. I was somewhere outside of Manila when Chano texted me the news, that my man Chub-B has passed. He passed away due to a heart attack he suffered in his sleep. Don't get me wrong, me and Chubb's aren't really close friends -- but he has been part of my growth in the scene. I met Chub-B as one of the pioneering employees for FUBU Philippines in the early 2000's. He is Kristyles boy, and by far -- was relatively famous behind the scene.
Whhatever hiphop event there was, beef or no beef -- Chub-B was there, supporting people and learning the game -- I say this cause later on he perfected the hustle more than anyone I know. He was selling watches off the FUBU counters even though they weren't FUBU products, hehehe. Alam niyo yan! But through all of this, Chubb's went to record a song with me back in 2006. The track is ironically titled "GISING" -- or to wake from slumber featuring his brother. Hotnixx helped Chub-B fill a couple of lines, helped him deliver the song to what it is now. This song appeared on a compilation by TEAM STAR RECORDS, this was the first song Chub-B ever recorded.
Chub-B would then go on to open his own clothing line with the very intriguing BOSS BALITA shirts. I remember seeing someone in church in Singapore rocking one of his shirts, thinking damn Chubb's that shit is dope. He also went on to spearhead the 187 Movement. The last time I saw him was at the Sunugan Battle, coming out to support J-Skeelz. Classic Chub-B coming out to support, our last conversation was "Bong, ayos to, ang daming tao, ang galing mo. Eto yun hiphop na gusto nating mangyari."
Chubb's, salamat. I was out of town and wasn't able to visit you but I will never be absent in letting people know how good of a person you are.
Rest in peace, hustler.

JOIN THE QUEST Entry 9 "U92.3 CLOSES"
VIDEO BY LOUIE BARETTO, MUSIC BY QUEST "BACK TO LOVE"
U92.3 FM had a very good run. Good shows, good personalities and above it all good music played on the daily. Good news broke out when my friends would tell me that they would hear OPM music played in this station during primetime spots -- which gave the station the new found love of listeners. Shows like The KC Show, The Dollhouse and even the Brewrats would be easy favorites.
And to all you Quest fans, I would like to inform everyone that before any station played Back To Love, U92.3 FM and 99.5 were the first 2 stations to give it a listen. I want to thank KC Montero, Jimmy Muna, Cesca and even DJ Patti for giving us the green light to go on air with Back To Love. It's amazing how one song such as Back To Love transcend and showcase the time U92 had on air.
Thank you for the spotlight and friendship U92.3!!
SHABA!!!
