7 Shots of Wisdom - Keepin It Hot (Produced by DJ Arbi Won)
It's The Community Blues series, in line with our release of The Community 2006 CD for free download this coming March 5 presented by Urban Athletics, I am personally letting out some tracks from my archives. Some you know, some you don't know -- but definitely some of the best OPM tracks that have helped me shape my label to what it is.
My affinity for 7 Shots started with their Lifted CD, I didn't know what to make of it. There were no press releases, no magazine, no Facebook annoucements, no news letters -- I was at the record store and picked up the tape based on the title of the songs alone. I was that aggressive in getting my local hiphop fix.
Today I'm letting you in one of the blue prints of Turbulence and The Community -- tons of trivia surrounding my favorite 7 Shots song, Keepin' It Hot produced by one of my all time favorites, DJ Arbi won.
1. This song came from the Rekognize compilation -- which in all sense of it, paved way to the idea of The Community CD alongside of course DJ Arbi Won's United Freestyle albums. This also, has gotta me by favorite DJ Arbi Won beat.
2. 7 Shots member Nathan J embarked on The Community journey and took me and my team with him. Nathan J is the brain child behind this world renowned show. It was his idea to name it The Community. I remember not wanting to work with that title because of the pressure that it gave. But his confidence made me and my team work hard. The Community album is brought to you by On The Ground Music, Turbulence Productions, Team Strato and presented to you by Urban Athletics.
3. 7 Shots mixture of rhymes, word play & R&B has been one of the blueprints to giving Turbulence its direction. The balance that 7 Shots had -- the melodies, the harmonies, the pen game, the metaphors -- the bid for radio, these were traits I was unknowingly pushing to my artists. No group I've heard before Audible and LDP could master the sharing of verses in a song like 7SOW did.
4. Turbulence is built on carrying on tradition. This song was thematic for my indie grind, every word on this song is something I always live by. Borrowing from this song every time for added inspiration.
It's because of you people that we making this hits
We letting it rip, we keepin it lit
Avoiding the slips for the next generation inheriting this
We got the brown, brown sound, keepin' it live
We representing kid, 24/7 (So why?)
We always on the move, never be resting (So why?)
We still down when we on a higher level (So why?)
Our presence in this rap shit is essential (So tell me why?)
Never pause, bless the mic with or without any cord
7Shots like Honda cars, we move in accord
For all the hiphop heads from PI to NY
When we were starting out as an indie label, Turbulence Productions served as our music arm and we then had Brown Sounds Entertainment, which served as the marketing and artist management department. Check the outro, that line by Mario subconsciously helped us name the Nimbusnine classic NY to PI. I was bumping this song hard back in the day and it put direction to the things I wanted done. And as always, we keep on making it hot.
