Hugo is an artist signed to Rocnation. New York based artist by way of Thailand and London, this musician has been traveling around the world looking for his break. From what I know, he got signed and then got dropped by a major label in London, moved to NYC and created a buzz in the indie music circuit. A self proclaimed journey man, he was just about to jet set out of New York when he got a call that Beyonce wanted to use one his originals for an album. Soon after he gets a call from Beyonce's husband and signed with Rocnation.
Trying to push country, blues, rock with a hiphop back bone of a beat - he is coming out with his debut album entitled Old Tyme Religion. One of the tracks in the album is 99 Problems, a Jay-z original -- and he played it with a banjo and footsteps sounding beat. Hugo is a mix of several things, but what he is not is confused. He knows what kind of music he wants to push and gets the blessing and air space from the number one fly guy of the music industry.
Tonight I give you, Wake Alone -- with the promotional CD I was handed down, this was the track that doesn't feel too edgy. Not too left field. Although I am not sure if we are to see a Philippine release of his album soon, I am certain Hugo will be making a buzz if the timing is right. His eclecticism is reminiscent of a John Lennon mixed with George Harrison's exploration towards the eastern culture.
As mentioned, we are giving away a Jay-z Decoded Book, a 3rd World shirt and an autographed Loonie CD if you are the 260,000th visitor of this site.
